See previous JCI positions below and current position above. I manage (2003-present) the PVE Group and the CAD Administrator. We resolve design, fabrication, maintenance, field repairs, quality, and vendor supply issues in a team environment, and support JCI fabrication sites in Mexico and Texas. Designs are to customer specs and applicable codes including ASME BPVC Section VIII, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.5 and TEMA and may include certifications to Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, or China. Together with my team, I establish, prioritize, and arrange schedules for maintaining 60 designs and releasing >400 application specific designs a year. In addition to design, I am involved with selection, evaluation, and implementation of CAD tools & associated document management. I direct our administrator who supports >50 on-site designers and engineers and provides off-site drawing access and a replicated vault.Accomplishments:●Transitioned vessel team from local design & fabrication support to a design center supporting multiple fabrication sites.●Oversaw FEA evaluation and implementation of design change to improve rigidity of base plates while reducing cost by $156,000 / year.●Collaborate with engineers in Denmark, China and Brazil. Improved quality, safety and cost by standardizing and sharing best practices.●Developed Particular Material Appraisals, calculations, approved drawings, and submitted Technical Files for Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). 2010 Approval. ●Rep to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) evaluation team. Crafted CAD Integration and Data Management sections in the 2013 SOW. ●Lead for wide format plotter with folder & scanner; 2003-present. Achieved $30,000 lease savings in 2012. ●Initiated effort to implement engineering document vault. $33,540 savings over displaced software. ●Helped create, arrange and host the 1st Autodesk User's Group International (AUGI) Cumberland Valley Manufacturer's User's Group. President 2007.
  • Johnson Controls
Supervisor, Pressure Vessel & Heat Exchangers Engineering
    Johnson Controls Feb 1999 - Apr 2003
    Cork, Ireland, Ie
See other JCI positions above and below. As a supervisor, I was tasked with meeting aggressive design, drawing, and BOM releases along with improving our products and supporting literature.Accomplishments:● Within a two year span, with the direction of Vessel Product Manager, established designs, engineering data, and customer literature for 17 new and updated vessel families and two vessel packaged product lines.● Increased throughput by 17% in a single year with same headcount by utilizing 3D model templates on custom designs.● Improved quality and reduced cost by establishing relationship with new tubesheet drilling supplier which had an estimated annual savings of $75,000, and by consolidating gasket shipping costs for a $5,000 annual savings. ● Participated in CAD evaluation with recommendation saving Waynesboro plant saving more than $100,000 per year.● Strong advocacy for sharing data via the local area network led to the development of the electronic sales order storage folder concept which replaced paper and physical folders. The folder structure remains in use.● Eliminated 90,200 annual paper copies of reproduced drawing manuals by utilizing AutoCAD’s free viewers and local area network file access.● Spearheaded Vessel Engineering group's transition from 2D to 3D CAD.● Directed the update and approved the release of nearly 1,200 AutoCAD drawings modified to address ISO 9000 audit findings that drawings lacked dimensional tolerances and referenced obsolete standards.
  • Johnson Controls
Senior Project Engineer, Pressure Vessel & Heat Exchanger Engineering
    Johnson Controls Jan 1998 - Jan 1999
    Cork, Ireland, Ie
See other JCI positions above. Our Frick division is a global Industrial Refrigeration equipment producer for the petrochemical, food & beverage, and natural gas industries. The Frick Company was founded by George Frick in 1853. Frick was purchased by York International in 1988 which was then purchased by Johnson Controls in 2005. As a new project engineer, I was tasked with learning the various product lines, understanding refrigeration, and improving processes as it related to pressure containing equipment.Accomplishments:● Resolved impact exemption uncertainties and test pressure requirements to ensure code compliance and a safety margin against brittle fracture.● Resurrected, reviewed, obtained concurrence, and issued Vessel & Heat Exchanger Drafting Guidelines that improve consistency and reduced errors. ● Initiated LAN based reference manual in HTML format that promotes greater sharing of resources and consistency of reference material. This is now accessible throughout organization via internal web server.
