I automate and innovate! Held project management & technical roles focused on robotics and innovation surrounding Next-Generation Sequencing methods (NGS).- Worked with multiple 3rd party robotics companies to design and program integrated, automated workflows. Implemented a novel automated genomics production platform cutting costs and saving resources while increasing genetic screening throughput 3-fold, held trade-secret by the Company. - Managing numerous genomics projects on Illumina platforms, delivering big data used for prediction models for genomic selection to meet biological deadlines.

Multi-functional technical role with focus on automation, quality control (QC), and quality assurance, using computational and statistical methodology. Creating methods to adopt new technologies while upholding quality to rigorous ISO 17025 standards. Managed post-processing of 300k+ samples/year, enabled by Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).- Proof-of-concept novel NGS library construction, involving QC validation, automation development, and SOP creation. Responsible for design and implementation of molecular research and development assays and phenotyping parameters to assist breeding pipelines with Chromatin subsidiary Sorghum Partners, LLC in Lubbock, TX, as well as to develop and optimize genotyping assays to guide transgenic event selection and characterization with transformation team in Champaign, IL. Also played key roles in database management, biomarker development, high-throughput data generation, pipeline organization, and analysis.- Design and implementation of an innovative high-throughput (HT) Fluorescence in situ Hybridization assay designed to indicate the presence of an autonomous mini-chromosome across several species.- Design and implementation of HT multiplex PCR screening methods to screen for 7 genes at once: reducing cost and dramatically improving efficiency- Developed KASP genotyping assays to identify novel traits among sorghum hybrids.Presented phenotyping and sampling training guides, increasing communication between national research teams and global breeding teams- Organization and management of relocating a molecular laboratory; resulting in a synergistic cross-state merger of molecular & transformation labs.

Supported large amounts of high-throughput data generation, as a CRO for several R&D grants with companies and institutions including Dow AgroSciences, Bayer, Monsanto, Syngenta, US-Department of Energy and ARPA-E, as well as internal R&D projects to support IP portfolio surrounding mini-chromosome technology, primarily for biofuel efficiency.- Collaborated with internal research teams across 3 locations to deliver data from numerous molecular assays.- As an early, junior member of the start-up, played key roles in laboratory management, establishing laboratory safety guidelines, writing SOPs, and training new employees.- Technical expertise gained included: molecular cloning by In-Fusion, Cre-Lox, Gateway, or restriction endonuclease digestion/ligation for the manipulation of proprietary Mini-Chromosome technology with gene-stacking capabilities.- Projects often included designing primers/DNA oligos, qPCR copy number analysis, qRT-PCR gene expression analysis, multiplex PCR primer design and optimization, extensive fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), high and low density genotyping, Next-Generation sequencing technologies of yesterday (Illumina/454/SOLiD) and Sanger sequencing, basic bioinformatics, extensive phenotyping, and data/sample collection in the field.
