Sales And Service Advisor

Barclays Call Centre

I was a member of a group of people who were the front line in customer interaction within the telephone banking industry. While on the phones I would service customers everyday needs from balance enquiries to bill payments to funds transfers. I would also have to deal with customer complaints about their accounts, charges, etc. We were also a very sales orientated department, with products such as loans, savings accounts, overdrafts and credit cards to sell. During my time there, I was selected to go on user acceptance testing to ensure that change proposals were user friendly and fit for purpose for my fellow advisors. I was also selected to be a Mentor and a floorwalker due to my knowledge and my ability to communicate that information to other advisors and customers. This meant while there was a shortage of team leaders on the operational floor, I would come off the phones and begin query handling on the unit and dealing with escalated complaints and queries from customers and advisors which involved certain levels of authority for refunds and gestures of goodwill. My coaching skills also took me to the Skills Development Area, which was set up for new recruits fresh out of training. Whilst there I would help the people in that area to make a smooth and painless transition from the training room to the front line, answering any questions they had and helping them understand anything they hadn't quite grasped yet. I had an extensive knowledge of the back office systems due to my eagerness to learn more about the work behind the scenes and was regularly called upon to be seconded to other areas of the operation to help reduce back logs for certain error reports and system queries with which I had learnt how to deal. I was also used as a trainer in the back office support team to teach other people these procedures, as well as spending time in the Internet banking department.
