Well, that's a lot better. Same sort of job, but working with (good!) people again; much nicer industry, too, one where you hope your kit can diagnose a rare congenital disease and improve a family's life, rather than one where you sell websites and protein shakes.

THG bought UK2 a few years ago, and towards the end of my stay decided to promote me to a position with allegedly more leeway to do wide-ranging things. In practice, nothing really changed.

I oversaw a RESTful API, and corresponding back-end processes, that dealt with the billing, provisioning and administration of all sorts of hosting systems stuff: domain registrations, shared hosting, VPS, various add-ons like site builders, security systems etc. I dealt with the transition from a hacked-together mess of Perl scripts to a sane, modern.

Web-based transaction reporting systems, e-commerce shopping cart integration, various Perl-based data munging. I was employee number 3, hired as the dot-com boom started to take off, and managed to cope with continuous exponential growth rates in traffic and data quantity.
