Having over twenty-five years of experience as a RN in both Inpatient and Outpatient settings from ICU to Behavioral Health, I have a strong base for medical knowledge, but more importantly I have compassion and empathy. Starting in 1994 on a Medical- Surgical unit, I realized my passion was in ICU care, mostly cardiac. From there I was able to get a job at Strong Memorial Hospital U of R in Rochester, N.Y. on an Interventional Cardiac step-down Unit. Gaining experience in assessments, interventions and all things cardiac, I decided to take this on the road as a Travel Nurse to see the Country and gain experience in many settings. I worked in Denver, Nashville, NY City, and other exciting places from cancer units to Burn ICU, I acquired the ability to adapt quickly and learn fast. Slowly my passion faded for cardiology, and I became a Wound Certified RN who worked as a Public Health Nurse in Steuben County, N.Y. I managed a large territory with an even larger case load of patients. This was quite a transition from hospital based nursing. This was a different pace, and I was amazed at how others trusted their feelings, fears, hopes and dreams with me. Nurses experience humanity in the raw, the true individuality and uniqueness of each patient. I found Mental Health and Substance Abuse treatment to be the most rewarding, and the most interesting. Human behavior is fascinating to me, and I am lucky to be a part of a team that studies, diagnoses and treats those that society often casts out- to hide and deny these individuals- out of shame, fear and stigma when in reality, these are people with an organic diseases of the brain with the potential to heal and live their lives to the fullest. These are Medical and Behavioral Health issues. To be on the forefront of our opiate epidemic helping to reduce use, to help make treatment more effective, is the most rewarding job of all. Now, having gained even more experience and knowledge as a student of H.M.I. Accredited College of Hypnotherapy, and WA State Certified Hypnotherapist, I can take this even further and truly help others to create the change they seek with rapid growth, positive rewards and self improvement.
