Designed interconnect architecture of complex UAV system of systems. Designed schematics to integrate computer, with communications, power supply, sonar, and other acoustic sensors, inertial navigation, GPS, and mass storage devices. Coordinate with other project systems engineering mechanical engineers, electrical and software engineers. Participated in preliminary design and critical design reviews. Used design tools including but not limited to Altium, Matlab, and version control. All documentation as per Mil-Spec, ASME, and ISO 9001.

Developed, Debugged, and tested an embedded low power STM32L1 ARM microcontroller and power efficient electronics for powered air respirators and hybrid body-worn respirator systems for survival in CBRN environments for armed forces and security personnel including. Systems included adaptive motor control, head-up display, airflow sensors, and a lithium battery charging system. Designed the system architecture design and hardware design for an automated system for characterization and test of the aforementioned powered respirator apparatus. Directed activities of subcontractors, mentored junior engineers, and participated in development activities with other geographically separated cross-functional design teams. Utilized MATLAB, and Excel for detailed analysis.

Designed and developed systems architectures and electronics under US Government contracts for research and development programs. One of these included a subcutaneous hand-held carbon dioxide (CO2) sensor system technology for the U.S. Army and Navy. Another was the development of a classified high-speed stand-off system for detection of explosives for DARPA. On both of these projects I was responsible for systems architecture and electronics design, system test, integration, and managed external design, supplier, and fabrication resources.

Chief architect on several military battery operated mobile systems. Designed and developed military systems from concept including, but not limited to, design of systems architecture, selection of power efficient microprocessors, and development of systems as part of a lean development team using expedient method. Designed and upgraded to night vision readable displays for existing systems. Developed ruggedized mobile digital video recorder. Evaluated OLED video display technologies for use in the development of new and current systems.

I have broad expertise in many areas of electronics and systems design including research, invention, design, development, integration, test, evaluation, manufacturing, and deployment. Specializing in electronics and microprocessor-based circuitry and systems design, I have been involved in projects involving digital cameras, covert imaging, ruggedized flat panel displays, Head Mounted Displays, GPS/INS, electronic storage, communications for commercial, medical, industrial, military systems, and government labs.

I spearheaded a recent project for Diffraction LTD which developed an SWIR- based imaging system of electronics design from concept through delivery to customer. The system detected and tracked up to five SWIR beacons, processed their ASCII message data, and displayed messages as video overlay graphics with real-time scene video. The system was based on a TI TMS320DM6437 video DSP that included high speed SDRAM, Camera link interface, SWIR camera, DSP board and OLED display. This project was funded by the US Government.

As President and Principal Consultant of this electronics consulting company I developed products for other businesses. My primary role was as a systems research and development engineer developing the customer’s idea into a viable product. I managed outside services, suppliers, and manufacturers. My projects included A Smart IP Camera for Videology of Rhode Island. It was based on the TI Davinci DM6446 DSP/ ARM system on a chip. I determined architecture in this project, did performance analysis, selected components, and developed a road map for detailed design. An IP Gateway Server motherboard for an internet environmental monitoring system for e-Sitewatch.com in Massachusetts. It was based on the AMD Elan520 and including network interface, SDRAM, various types of non-volatile memory, and several measurement module plug-in slots. A Flat Panel Display with compact flash data storage as part of a front panel esthetics upgrade for Doble Engineering, a test equipment manufacturer for the electrical power distribution market. It included a Sharp AMLCD and Epson graphics controller. I provided engineering and technical expertise to Thomas Workman, Esq, a Massachusetts patent attorney.

As Director R&D for this wearable computer systems company, I designed and developed Head-Mounted Displays and portable CPU Systems that were IBM PC software-compatible. I evaluated all micro and flat displays, CPUs, DSPs, and other ICs and designed new products. I also performed new technology assessments and evaluated system requirements analysis to be sure of software and mission compatibility. Projects included created intellectual property and generated supporting documentation. Designed and developed the 486 based MA-2 including AMLCD HMD. Co-developed the MA-4TC with Xybernaut and Digital Logic AG in Switzerland. Developed MA-4, based on Intel Pentium and Celeron CPUs. Co-developed the MA-5 with IBM, Sony, Olympus, Hitachi, and Matashushista in Japan. I traveled extensively, domestic and internationally, to trade shows, subcontractors, manufacturers, partners, and to company divisions in Japan and Germany where I managed small dispersed project teams. My responsibilities included overseeing manufacturing, troubleshooting problems, meeting customers and partners, evaluating new technology, and performing regulatory testing to assure of FCC Class B, UL, CE, compliance.

I designed hierarchical industrial measurement and control modules using custom ASICs and SMT components, high reliability, and fault-tolerant redundancy, while maintaining software compatibility.

I managed and focused a multitalented engineering team, including mechanical, software, and industrial designers in support of AMLCD micro display HMD development projects. Projects included the following: Design of video circuitry for head-mounted display and virtual reality helmet systems. Design of demonstration boards for prospective customers to evaluate HMD subsystems. Support of DARPA AMLCD micro display HMD projects for jet fighter and attack helicopter gun sight CRT replacement. I had extensive customer, vendor, and subcontractor contact in support of customers and for oversight of each HMD manufacturing project. Performed FCC Class A and UL regulatory testing and made on-the-spot modifications.

I designed internal control processors and communications PCBs for ATM gateway switch embedded system processor board designs using Motorola 68K series microprocessors that were dual-fault tolerant.

Provided engineering that specialized in high-performance digital circuits and systems design and expert high quality solutions from concept through manufacturing. This included complete product development solution package circuit design, PCB design, fabrication, and assembly. Projects included GPS navigation processor, Lottery ticket vending machine, I.C. tester, Graphics, Internet Gateway.

I developed video gaming terminal embedded IBM DOS compatible 386 based CPU controller board and designed a high resolution graphics subsystem based on the TI TMS34010 to offload CPU. This included a speech synthesizer, stereo sound generator, touch screen, RS422 and RS485 ports. It was fault tolerant, with power line monitoring, a watchdog timer, and battery-backed memory and security.

I developed a test and analysis system for high-speed system memory arrays and modular protocol bridge/ router based on RISC CPUs and 32 bit VME backplane.

I designed an 80186 based embedded control processor and I/O circuitry for REFLUPS military field hospital intravenous drug production system.

As a development Engineer for CCD-based infrared camera research and development team, Star Wars, I designed a timing generator ASIC for driving CCD and control of image acquisition processor and video stream data annotation circuitry and high speed image mass storage systems. For these projects, I used cryogenics, vacuum, optics, image processing, and performed radiometric measurements.

I designed PC based plug-in expansion ISA and PCI boards. It included multi-standard video frame grabber, analog, digital measurement and control boards. All product specifications, schematics, software specification were documented for product development through manufacturing.

I selected, designed and developed military grade integrated GPS/ INS guidance systems. I performed hardware, software, and system level integration, including production robotics design and upgrade, and the maintenance of automated test systems for testing and evaluating rate-integrating gyros and accelerometers. This position required in-depth knowledge of analog and digital electronics, computer programming, and complex physical properties of inertial guidance. I supervised electronic technicians in maintenance and calibration of complex systems.

Originally hired for the standards laboratory as a test equipment technician, my responsibilities were soon broadened to include the following: Manufacture of hybrid circuits for cardiac pacemakers including manufacturing processes, process equipment, analog, digital, and circuit failure analysis. Defining and developing processes and procedures for manufacture, test, and repair of circuit assemblies. Determining cause of defects and prescribing corrective actions. Defining, performing, and documenting special tests and processes to increase productivity. Designing, developing, repairing, and calibrating commercial and special test equipment.

Selected for the advanced electronics training program, I performed Flight line and AIMD maintenance on the fire control systems and subsystems of aircraft-carrier-based attack aircraft. This included airborne fire control computers, navigation computers, HUD, gyroscope, radar, and GSE. As an R & D systems support technician and standards lab technician stationed at NWC China Lake, I held TS security clearance and enrolled in nuclear weapon (PRP) Personnel Reliability Program. I was awarded a good conduct medal after six years in USN with honorable discharge.
