YMI at Sunsail Lefkas

I worked two seasons with Odysseus as a Flotilla Skipper. My job entailed looking after up to 10 yachts of guests on their flotilla holiday in the Ionian for one or two weeks. I gave individual technical boat briefings at the start of each week as well as everyday briefings on destinations, weather and tourist information about the areas we sailed to. I endeavoured to fix any problems, personal or yacht related for the guests to help their holidays go as smoothly as possible.At the weekends I would help the base team by turning around the yachts, cleaning the decks and doing basic maintenance, to ensure they were ready for the next guests.I found this a very rewarding job and it has set me up very well to continue my career in the sailing business by soon completing my instructors certificate.

I worked as a Flotilla Hostess for half a season with Sunsail in 2014.I was involved in ensuring guests on flotilla were aware or all social events we has planned and generally to help give holiday makers the best holiday possible. I would help give daily briefings about the areas we were to visit and organise BBQs and games for all the guests.I enjoyed this job but it did help me very quickly make the decision that I was more than just a hostess, so I left part way through the season to embark on my Yachtmaster Skipper Training.

This was not full-time work, It only entailed working for the Summer School season during July/ August each year. I was a Mate, which involved helping out a Skipper on a yacht of up to 43ft. We would have up to 6/8 children from all around the globe on board and we had to help them with their English language skills but also give them a holiday experience to remember for a lifetime.My job entailed preparing three meals a day for everyone on board, organisation of cleaning schedules, helping entertain the children and also helping with any sailing duties the skipper needed me for.
