About Shannon Stauffer
Scientist, patent agent, innovation enthusiast. I have been deeply rooted in learning and teaching my entire life. First in chemistry, then in green energy innovations, and now in intellectual property protection. My move out of the research lab mirrors what I aim to help my clients with—to move their inventions out of the lab and into the market by building and protecting their intellectual property assets. Innovation is happening across all sectors, and I focus on materials and compositions, software, hardware, and biotechnologies ranging from high-tech solutions to molecular biology.I made a place for myself in patent practice 5 years ago and have been developing a US practice servicing university researchers, start-ups and small and medium enterprises for the past 4 year. Over the years, my patent practice has included preparing and prosecuting utility patent applications in the USPTO, EPO and managing international patent portfolios. Outside of my core responsibilities, I spend my time fostering communities that support women in sciences, graduate student representation, all bodies on bicycles, and communities across the intellectual property life cycle, such as in AUTM and AIPLA.While I have fully embraced remote work and all the flexibility it offers, I look forward to networking and seeing colleagues in person at industry events and meetings.
