In my previous position as the Assistant Director of Professional Affairs for the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), I recognized the need for the development of advanced educational programs and opportunities for physician assistants working in specialty areas of medicine. I created this position in order to strengthen the relationships between the AAPA and the physician specialty organizations to create those needed learning opportunities *Developed advanced course work for PAs in: Critcial Care Medicine Hospital Medicine Orthopedics Dermatology Emergency Medicine Basic Disaster Life Support

My as the assitiant director of professional affairs focused on health care regulations and accrediting bodies. I worked closely with the Joint Commission (formerly known as JCAHO), National Commission on Quality Assurance (NCQA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and other health care regulators/accreditors to develop rules/regs/standards that will include the practice of physician assistants and prevent language that might create barriers to PA practice. I assited hospital administrators and medical staffs with issues concerning PA practice ranging from medical staff privileging to the development of a PA adminstrative body.

I managed many of the non-surgical patients, managed pain medications, provided pre and post-op care, hospital rounds, non-surgical pain management including trigger point injections, nerve root blocks, epidurals, etc. Also provided first-assist support during spine surgeries.
