Profile bio

About Skye D. Quamina, Au.D., Ccc-A

At an early age I decided that I would serve people with hearing loss, and have since dedicated my life to improving the quality of life for this population of people in any way that I can, which included teaching children, teenagers and young adults with hearing loss for over 4 years. My time as a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing helped me to understand the daily struggles and triumphs of this population and their families. It also helped me to better understand the development of children with hearing loss, how to see the WHOLE patient (child or adult), how to create individualized plans of care and learning, how to prioritize important tasks and how to quickly solve problems when the unexpected happens. My previous experience as a teacher, as well as my time in graduate school for Audiology have taught me how to be a good leader, communicate effectively, work with data and collaborate with researchers and colleagues. The lessons I have learned through my training and experience as a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing have also translated well, and been implemented into my work with the adult population. I began graduate school, with a focus in pediatrics, and while I continue to have a desire to work with pediatric patients and their families, graduate school also introduced me to working with Veterans and their families. I currently work with Veterans to complete their Compensation and Pension evaluations. I truly enjoy working with this population and hope to further my career as part of a VA Medical Center one day. I truly have a passion for working with both Veterans and pediatric patients and their families. Through my training in graduate school, and work experiences thus far, I specialize in diagnostic hearing evaluations, balance evaluations, as well as, adult hearing aid sales, selection, fitting and follow up.
