The PRACTICE (Preventing and Responding to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)-Associated Health Conditions and Toxic Stress in Clinics through Community Engagement) Coach position is part of a dynamic team working to develop and implement programs and projects for the Population Health Innovation Lab (PHIL) and sits within the Learning & Action Lab division. The Learning & Action Lab facilitates systems change through research, shared learning, capacity building, and backbone support to multisector collaboratives and other partners. The PRACTICE Coach will work closely with California-based clients (grantees awarded by The UCLA-UCSF ACEs Aware Family Resilience Network-UCAAN) to implement systems change efforts to decrease the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and toxic stress.

Independent Contract position with East Valley Community Health Center to manage the ACEs Aware Network of Care Planning Grant. This grant seeks to build and strengthen robust “networks of care” to effectively respond to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and toxic stress with community-based health and social supports that meet the needs of children, adults, and families. Grant collaborators include Tri-City Mental Health Services, Community Translational Research Institute, and Claremont Graduate University. This contract will expire September 30, 2021.-Managed a $300,000 budget for an 8-month Network of Care Planning Grant awarded by California’s ACEs Aware initiative to East Valley and three sub-grantees.-Strengthened community partnerships and resource referral channels to increase the awareness of adverse childhood experiences and how to mitigate early toxic stress.-Communicated with clinics, non-profits, universities, and behavioral health services to develop strategies to better address the social, emotional, and physical developmental needs of children in the Pomona community.-Presented challenges, successes, and recommendations to grantees across the state.-Created four detailed grant deliverable reports with input gathered from the Network of Care team.https://www.acesaware.org/blog/aces-aware-awards-30-8-million-in-network-of-care-grant-funds/

-A contract position through Heluna Health.-Directly assisted the Program Manager and project investigators to implement grant objectives to reducediabetes in the Pomona area.-Facilitated communication across five task force teams to coordinate the CDC-endorsed National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP).-Onboarded new DPP health coaches and participants as well as maintained scheduling and needs of existing classes.-Supervised social work, nursing, and public health students who assisted participants with supports such ashousing and transportation during their program.

The mission of Echo is to educate parents and service professionals about trauma and resilience in order to prevent retraumatization, resolve individual and community-level trauma, and create the safe, stable, nurturing relationships that break the cycle of generational trauma and allow us to heal.-Engaged in a variety of trauma- informed trainings, parenting classes, and conferences throughout Los Angeles.-Designed and circulated a survey to health care providers about their awareness of ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) and their willingness to screen patients for ACEs and toxic stress.https://www.echotraining.org/

-Assisted administrative staff with a component of the Hospital's Annual Community Benefit Report.-Recruited participants and organize focus groups with local health organization leaders to complete an updated Community Health Needs Assessment. -Strategized focus group input into an Implementation Strategy for the hospital.

-Represented the Senator's office at a variety of district and county events relating to health, education, housing, immigration, and the environment. -Reported progress of current bills to constituents and recorded their concerns and positions.

-Selected for the California Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities fellowship, a joint program with the USC University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) site.-Collaborated with interdisciplinary teams to practice discussion-based learning and leadership/advocacy skills.-Conducted a research project regarding access and equity issues with Early Intervention Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

-Create a close knit relationship with faculty, staff, and students.-Plan and organize on-campus events, trips, and fundraisers.-Serve as an advocate for student engagement opportunities.

The Clinical Care Extender intern program is for students interested in careers in health. Every 3 months, interns rotate to different floor where they assist doctors, nurses, and patient care assistants. I have been on the following floors: Medical Pulmonary, Medical Surgical, Mother Baby, ER, Telemetry, Labor & Delivery,Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Rehab Services, and GI Services. I have seen many aspects of hospital management through this program.

I was a part of UC Irvine's Public Health Clinical Research course. It is a year long program that enables students to receive first-hand experience in some of the research labs on campus or at the Medical Center in Orange. I have been in a Chronic Pain Management Lab under the supervision of Dr. Luo and Dr. Chang. I have also observed and assisted in the lab of Dr. David Reinkensmeyer which involves robotic rehabilitation for stroke patients. I spent about a year with Dr. Reinkensmeyer's lab where I helped run therapy sessions with patients and the robotic exercise equipment.

I interned in the Keen Senior Resources Center. I assisted with programs involving nutrition/health, assisted living, tax, legal advice, transportation, and housing. This experience sparked my interest in gerontology and the challenges seniors face.
