LIFELONG PASSION“I never deliberately learned to read [...] Now that I was compelled to think about it, reading was something that just came to me, as learning to fasten the seat of my union suit without looking around, or achieving two bows from a snarl of shoelaces.” The first time I read these lines in Harper Lee’s classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, I was enchanted by how accurately she had described my experience with reading. However, there is one big difference between Scout Finch and me: Scout never cherished or loved her ability to read until it was taken from her; I have been in love with reading my entire life. THE VAST UTILITY OF WORDSAs an English undergraduate at the University of Wyoming at Casper College, a tutor in the Casper College Writing Center, and the editor-in-chief for the Expression Literary and Arts Magazine, words are my lifeblood. They come as naturally to me as breathing, and I take every opportunity to cultivate them into things that are unique, creative, and beautiful.
