Part of one of the teams working on the "Digital Newsroom" platform, an enabler for the "online first" strategy at De Persgroep. On the "Digital Newsroom" platform all content (articles, video's, polls, ...) is created, published & distributed to the various brands (HLN, De Morgen, AD, ADR, Trouw, VK, ...) and channels (print, online, ...) owned by De Persgroep.Our main challenge was to migrate all editorial departments from the existing (an aged) platform towards a new one while not having achieved feature parity yet and no goal to achieve it either. Together with everyone involved we did however manage to convince all key users making the rollout and adoption a success.MVP, Scrum, Agile, Microservices, Java, API, REST, AMQ, Amazon AWS, Elastic SearchWhat did I learn here?- Every product, service and/or team needs a mission/vision to create alignment and purpose.- If the Scrum Master and the Product Owner are a "match" this an immediate boost for the team.- Aligning 30+ development teams is never easy. No matter what methodology or framework you use.- When migrating from on-premise to Amazon AWS (or Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Engine, ...) a lift & shift is not enough. You must adopt the cloud native features with these platforms have to offer.- As a Product Owner it is important to have some understanding of what the team is doing technically.- As a Product Owner it is important to know what Amazon AWS (or Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Engine, ...) have to offer.

The initial intention was to manage Drupal implementation projects but I was quickly outsourced to De Persgroep. As I was already thinking about starting my own business for a long time this was the final push that I needed.

What did I learn here? - Every second counts when processing payments. - Compliance must be embraced and seen as an opportunity.- Monolithic software applications kill development speed. No matter how many developers you throw at it. Breaking up the monolith takes time.

As the Professional Services team at Nomadesk became more & more successful the product roadmap started following the Professional Services roadmap. At this time it made sense to put both roadmaps under the same umbrella to ensure alignment.In practice most of my time was still spent managed rebranding and/or custom feature development projects.What did I learn here?- Fancy titles to open doors. - The true product roadmap should always be in the lead but if you are fighting to survive everything goes.

Scrum is the way to go.- Combining fixed price contract and Scrum is quite a challenge.- Even if you are rewarded handsomely to develop custom features you should still say "no" when these features conflict with the mission & vision of your own product.

Nothing is impossible.- If you absolutely need native development for key product features it will slow you down when expansion into new platforms is required.- It is better to focus on a few core product features instead of adding more on top.
