Principal Scientist
Senior Research Scientist
As Senior Research Scientist, I have managed a major work package through the product development cycle. Starting with our customer's concept, I led the technical research from design to productionisation, delivering a new low cost, high volume audio diamond dome product to market and expanding Element Six's capability in CVD growth and technology on non-planar geometries. Realisation of this product required close collaboration with our three customers, completing the industry required Advanced Product Quality Planning framework, FMEAs and all OH&S and standardised work documentation. After successful launch in 2015, I am now project leader for a cost reduction programme. Managing a team of 4 scientists and technicians, we look to standardise CVD synthesis methods and redesign accepted synthesis techniques to improve growth rates and appreciable cut production costs.
Research Scientist
Element Six is the world's leading supplier of high quality industrial diamond mainly used in medical, optical, radio frequency, thermal management and precision applications. As part of the R&D team, I have worked to develop new and existing single and polycrystalline CVD growth processes, for example developing diamond tweeter domes for audio applications, embracing both the technical development and project management elements. My work requires development of the chemical processes and hardware design as well as working closely with our commercial teams and customers, developing process cost models and technical specifications. Additional work within the mechanical support programme draws on my HPHT and defect engineering knowledge to aid product development and verification.
Phd Research Student
Completed my PhD in Physics at the University of Warwick with my thesis titled, "Identification of point defects in treated single crystal diamond".The research encompassed the use of a variety of spectroscopic techniques to study different centres in diamond which we can create, enhance and remove through treatment techniques. The ultimate purpose was to identify and control the source of many defects that occur in order to utilise them to make diamond the number one material for use in electronic and technological devices. My work has involved close collaboration with DTC, Element Six, Jon Goss at Newcastle University and more recently, working in Japan with Junichi Isoya at the University of Tsukuba and JAEA (Japan Atomic Energy Agency).
