About Susan Lively Klug

Market demand for local Knitting Machine repair during the pandemic has encouraged MakeLively to launch a service for Knitting Machine Repair. Machines built by Brother, Silver Reed, and Toyota do not all have current manufacturers and so creative repair and careful maintenance is required. Some are purely mechanical, some have electronic circuitry. MakeLively is 3D printing parts as well as parting out unsalvageable machines to better serve her customers. In my past I was a versatile and creative software developer and project manager with data analytics skills and a broad background. I am dedicated to the robustness of innovative software systems and thrive in a collaborative, fun environment that encourages continuous learning. My past and current software and automation projects : A Kossel Mini Delta 3D Printer, built from the parts list and now printing cases for small electronics. Designing, building and programming a Raspberry Pi based farm monitoring and automation system utilizing machine learning species recognition and environmental sensors. Sprinkler valve controller and water flow monitor. Past project : For Locus Computing, helped implement and debug Unix kernel code for network stack in a parallel operating system on the paragon super computer.

  • .
    Project Manager
    . Apr 1997 - Jun 2016
From 1991 to 1998 I worked my way up from Intern to Senior Member of Technical Staff at Locus Computing / Platinum Technology. The details are in the other sections, but in summary I spent a great amount of time writing scripts in Perl for testing, debugging and tracing threads in a large parallel operating system to enable us to delicately modify the kernel and networking code. I also worked with customers to learn how to reproduce their reported bugs. The environment was Unix, the languages were Perl, C, and C++. My coworkers were Software Architects and other Engineers. When our son was born in April of 1997 I chose to take a sabbatical from the work force and focus on his care. I quickly dedicated myself as a Volunteer with his schools (Art program director, Classroom volunteer, Band Uniform Mom), the Boy Scouts of America(Den Mother, Committee Chair, Assistant Scoutmaster, Merit Badge Counselor), Project Wildlife (animal rescue and rehabilitation) and Mira Mesa Monster Manor (haunted entertainment). In each of my volunteer positions my ability to creatively communicate, solve complex issues, mediate, brainstorm, and solve problems led me into leadership/management roles after a short time. I have been recognized by my community and the BSA as a successful volunteer leader. I enjoy working on intellectually challenging projects and with a wide variety of personalities. Focusing on learning a new technology, figuring out how/why software and hardware works (or is broken) honestly captivates me. I am an excellent fit for someone who needs an open minded, technical, thoughtful and thorough person. Building great teams and working together efficiently in fun, positive environments have been the keys to my management effectiveness.

  • Platinum Technology
    Senior Member Of Technical Staff
    Platinum Technology Feb 1995 - Feb 1998
    Norwest, Nsw, Au
1995-1998: Transitioned from maintenance project to a porting project. Porting from NT to UNIX, in C++. Worked in three different environments HP, AIX, Solaris, with different compilers, gcc and CSet++ as well as trying the HPC++ compiler. Gained insight into the level of support for C++ code in UNIX environments. With very little supervision came up to speed quickly on NT applications, C++ and the differences between NT and three different UNIX environments, AIX, Solaris, and HPUX. The NT application was written with the Borland C++, I have worked on porting it to AIX using CSet++, and Solaris using G++. The port to HPUX 9.x and 10.x required quite a bit of adaptation and educational reading/research.
