In 2011, I decide that if I was going to write a book about inspiration, I needed to unleash my verbage in an inspiring location. I have always wanted to write a book in a warm, faraway place so I headed to Guatemala for the SmartAss Buddha Project. I ended up in a quaint little apartment called Luna Azul that had a rooftop deck nestled in between the volcanoes on the shores of Lake Atitlan. My office was surrounded by coffee plants, mango trees, tropical birds, and had a stunning 360-degree view of the lake including all the geographical elements that hold it in place. I survived on fresh fruit and vegetable juice and was electrified every morning with the most amazing lattes I have ever tasted. The coffee seemed to have super powers because every time I took a sip, the sounds around me would disappear, light would swirl in front of my eyes and a unicorn would hop by. But it wasn’t all break dancing unicorns. I had to deal with regular power outages, earthquakes, being chased by hungry street dogs, and sloth like Internet speed, but the good news is that all those experiences only intensified my sarcasm skills. Between the locals, the views, the fruit, coffee and an ideal location to create, I was able to stay focused and happy to write the SmartAss Buddha.

I set up a website to promote the Grandma knows the F Word Book but the internet just wanted to hear about fun. through Google Ad placement on the website I was able to create a healthy passive income. This gave me the ability to "Research Fun" activities, people and places and then write about and photograph my experiences. I have to say it was not the worst gig in the world.

I have given multiple presentations across Western Canada on How to Have More Fun in Life. Through stories, pictures and videos I had audiences laughing and rethinking the direction of their life. I found speaking in the Corporate World extremely stressful and never derived great joy in the process. I guess when your goal is to get everybody to quit their job and live their lives on their own terms; the corporate world will tend to avoid you.

I was hired to shoot amenities at numerous resorts throughout Canada, United States, Mexico and the Caribbean. I shot hundreds of thousands of images of hotel rooms, swimming pools, restaurants and local tourist attractions.It was a challenging gig but the perks were truly amazing. Numerous times I had to pinch myself as I ordered another plate of coconut prawns while shooting on the beach. Gig ended due to 9-11.

I was hired to help launch Vancouver Television and take it on the air. I was the host/producer of the live on location portion of the Morning Breakfast Show.

My first book chronicled the tales of my 8000-mile bicycle ride around North America. The Coconut Head book is about following your heart and had a huge impact on the launch of my writing and broadcasting career. The book shares the tales of my crazy experiences and all the characters I encountered on the road.

With $160, no experience, no camping equipment and a piece of crap mountain bike; I rode from Vancouver BC, to San Diego, east to Key West Florida, north to Montreal PQ, and back to Vancouver.

Without knowing how to ski, I decided to move to Lake Louise and start a small business. I created holiday videos capturing individuals, friends and families on vacation. After getting lectured by the marketing director of the ski hill that nobody wants to have videos of themselves on vacation, I got out of town and headed to Vancouver. I continued to shoot on Grouse Mountain, Seymour Ski Area, Whistler and interior BC Mountains

I ran a program to teach 10-12 year olds how to play Freestyle Frisbee. Once the kids learned some skills, the top performers amongst them were sent to Florida for the North American Championships.I am not lying, it was my job and I was paid for it. I sincerely don't remember the High School counsellor mentioning this as a career opportunity.

Three days after I turned sixteen I was hired by Avis as a car jockey to drive rental vehicles between airports in Alberta. My assigned duties included:* Driving vehicles between airports* Delivering and pick up of vehicles from repair* Washing and refueling rental vehiclesBut these however, were the tasks that I actually learned and performed:* Reverse donuts* Drive the vehicle passenger seat* Large puddle splashing* Acceleration Testing – getting tires to spin and smoke * Equipment Testing – Revving engine to maximum RPM’s before putting car in gear * Performance Testing - Setting land speed records in Aries K cars and similar* Rockford Testing – Mastering the “Rockford” move from the 70’s TV show, “the Rockford Files”.* Gravity Tests – Cars were tested for their ability to jump curbs, meridians and ditches.
