She has successfully produced new technology applications for the commercial, military, and foreign markets. Kay’s current projects include defining technical requirements and performing business analyses for microgrids, solar PV systems and community energy storage projects. Kay led the IEC Technical Committee Working Group 4, a group of utility, industry and government stakeholders including NIST which developed and successfully balloted the international standard for smart grid use cases. Kay is working with multiple utilities, R&D organizations and commercial firms preparing technology transfer plans, developing cost benefit analyses for large renewable energy projects, defining project requirements and analyzing optimal design for energy resilient systems using renewable energy.
