The overall objective is to asses the current supply chain at the Innovative and Intensified Disease Management, (IDM), unit part of Neglected Tropical Diseases at global, regional and country level. IDM focuses on diseases for which cost-effective control tools do not exist and where large-scale use of existing tools and processes are limited.

One approach to a more tightly managed supply chain is to develop expertise and create internal accountability in three interlocking areas of responsibility: operational, commercial and technical. Life Science customers need operational leaders who can build and maintain operational service excellence, develop SOPs, manage suppliers and measure performance against KPIs. They need strong commercial leaders who can determine customer requirements and act as a bridge between the customer and operations. Finally, they need technical leaders who aggressively monitor the industry and regulatory landscape, communicate changes, oversee training and maintain high standards. Ideally, these three leads act as partners and support each other, improving the flow of goods and data and enabling pharmaceutical manufacturers to reduce costs through better efficiency.
