I spent the last two years working on an innovative framework to support the development and validation of autonomous vehicles software. I learned a lot about Big Data, AI, Simulation, Compute, and V&V.I learned as well that solving the Autonomy Problem cannot be a single-player exercise. To _make autonomy possible_ the sector needs solid solutions that can push the boundaries of today's frameworks and methodologies.This is why I joined AWS: a company serving many organizations, that is investing significantly in the automotive sector, and that demonstrated that innovation is possible even in very uncertain conditions.Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me to collaborate on challenging Autonomy projects: it's time to make it happen!

RE:Lab is a European leading company in Human-Machine Interaction Research & Development services. A highly multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, ergonomists able to deliver stunning HMI systems like car dashboards, tractor terminals, helicopter navigation systems, etc.I've been one of RE:Lab co-founders, helping to bridge the company from a university idea to a real company.In RE:Lab I've taken care mostly about the technical topics: which kind of technology mix do better implement a UI/UX (visual, haptic, etc)? How an idea can be brought to the market - technically and industrially speaking? What are the new methodologies and frameworks that can support the development of rich & multi-devices interfaces?I worked on the wide spectrum of the product/program development: concept, development, validation, simulation.

In Samsung, I created and led a team that defined and implemented the tools and methodologies needed to develop automated vehicle functions. The big question on the market right now is: when a vehicle function is safe enough to be introduced on the market? With my work and leadership role in Samsung, I worked on an innovative framework very well poised to provide an answer. To achieve that, I engaged with a lot of potential customers, partners (both established companies as well as startups), top universities and research centers. The technology mix I put in place is really unique: simulation at scale, pipelines to collect big data from test vehicles, formal languages, optimization techniques, and efficient HMIs. In Samsung, I organized public presentations about A.I. and Ethics and gave talks as a Samsung ambassador about “The new Nature of Cars”.

I've helped to bring DQuid from a patented idea in 2009 (better interfacing smartphone and their apps with vehicles) to one of the first IoT platforms to appear in Europe. Nowadays DQuid tech is used both in Aftermarket and OEM large-scale products in the automotive space.In DQuid my responsibilities are mainly related to strategy, business modeling, team and operations management, fund raising.Interestingly, what we found is that IoT not only improves everyday object, but bends their very nature.

Even if my experience with my Alma-mater ended with my PhD, I love to spend part of my time with students. This is why I still teach to 5th year students of Engineering Management how to manage innovation and how they can benefit from these incredible times to try to disrupt and improve entire industries. My course covers IoT-driven Business Modeling, Agile & Lean methodologies for Product Development, Model-Based Design.

I've conducted researches in the field of Human-Machine Interaction - especially for road vehicles - for eight years. In this period, starting from my master degree thesis work and then with my PhD work, I've co-founded the HMI Research Group at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where we participated in many research projects where I had the possibility to explore: model-based design & validation of embedded systems (MOGENTES), modeling and simulation of driver-vehicle-environment systems (AIDE), expert system and artificial intelligence to add services to exiting vehicles and how to redesign the EE infrastructure of road vehicles though modularization (AC+DC).

It's been exciting to work with this team of experts to support the definition of innovation guidelines for one of the most important multiutility company in Italy. The digitalization trend is changing significantly the scenario in this sector, with promising opportunities to be pursued. Interesting to notice that this "traditional" sector - water, gas and electricity distribution - is now at the center of the IoT revolution!

Durante il periodo nel Consiglio di Amministrazione in IREN Emilia ho rivestito le cariche di Presidente dell'Organismo di Vigilanza e di Gestore Indipendente, in ottemperanza con le Delibere n. 11/07 e n. 253/07 dell’Autorità per l’energia elettrica e il gas in tema di separazione funzionale dell’attività di distribuzione e vendita del gas. Esperienza impegnativa, bella e molto formativa. Ringrazio tutto lo staff dei dirigenti IREN per il supporto che mi hanno dato, per l'estrema professionalità e un profilo etico esemplare.
