In addition to serving as a Professor of the Practice in the Department of Political Science in the School of Arts and Sciences, I am also affiliated with the Tufts University Prison Initiative of Tisch College (TUPIT), which offers college degree programs in prison to incarcerated students and on campus to formerly incarcerated students (returning citizens). After five years of schooling, TUPIT graduated its first cohort of incarcerated students in January 2024 who earned their Bachelor of Arts in Civic Studies. My students are in TUPIT's degree program at MCI-Concord, a medium security men's prison in Concord, Massachusetts, as well as on campus via TUPIT's MyTERN (Tufts Education Reentry Network) program, which places returning citizens in classes with traditional undergraduate students. As a Senior Advisor, I will provide guidance and expertise on Tufts CTSI's community engaged research projects and ongoing initiatives, including with Addressing Disparities in Asian Populations Through Translational Research (ADAPT) and Collaboration for Research Equity, Sustainability, and Trust (CREST).Tufts CTSI was established in 2008 with a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Tufts CTSI is one of more than 50 institutions comprising the national CTSA Consortium, led by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, part of NIH.During its first award, Tufts CTSI built a robust partnership of 39 organizations and developed a unique identity within the CTSA Consortium, with nationally recognized strengths in emergency medicine, large effectiveness trials, clinical trials methods innovations, and translational science education. In 2013, Tufts CTSI was recognized as a translational science leader by NIH when it was awarded a second CTSA. This major accomplishment allows Tufts CTSI to continue to provide extensive services, resources, education, and mentorship to investigators across the partnership.Tufts CTSI was awarded a third CTSA in 2018 and a fourth in 2023. From bench to bedside, to clinical practice, to care delivery and public health, to public policy and beyond, Tufts CTSI is committed to fostering collaboration and innovation across the translational spectrum.
