Smiely Khurana, recently named one of Corporate Knights’ 2024 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leaders in Canada, is widely recognized as a leading voice in sustainable production. She founded The Sustainable Act in 2020 as a podcast focused on sustainability in the film industry, which has since evolved into a global media platform addressing climate issues and spotlighting changemakers worldwide. The Sustainable Act was recently featured in a gallery exhibition at The Reach Gallery & Museum in Abbotsford, BC as part of Des Pardes, celebrating local South Asian leaders.In addition to media work, Smiely is currently building a new initiative set to launch in 2025 with support from the Lawson Foundation, focused on climate mental health. This work builds upon her 2024 initiative, Climate Cafe Vancouver, which provides a safe space for environmentalists to discuss eco-anxiety, offering essential community support for those engaged in the climate movement.Smiely is an experienced speaker who has led discussions and delivered keynote addresses at schools, film festivals, and global conferences. She also contributed to Capilano University’s Faculty of Fine & Applied Arts, where she helped develop the new Ethical Producer course.A nature enthusiast, Smiely is passionate about preserving natural spaces for future generations. She served on the Board of Directors for the Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Foundation for two years and currently sits on the Board of Directors for CTS Youth Society and the Board of Advisors for Hollywood Climate Summit.
