Dr. Adam R. Smithey is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), as well as both Indiana's first Certified Discernment Counselor and Certified Gottman Therapist. Adam earned a bachelor degree in Psychology in 2008 from Trine University, a master degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2011 from Capella University, his PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision through Capella University in 2015. Adam currently owns his own private practice, Smithey Counseling Services (SmitheyCounseling.com) and serves local, national, and international clients. Here he provides customized counseling services to couples, individuals and families and specializes in couples workshops and private couples counseling weekends. Adam has more than twenty years of experience in providing client-centered services to adolescents, adults, couples and families. His counseling specialties include strength-based couple and family counseling, relationship counseling, advanced studies in infidelity counseling and the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Adam approaches all types of counseling with a nonjudgmental, curious and caring demeanor that aims to connect with and to empower everyone in the room.
