Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students at Elon University for 24 years, until I stepped down from the role in May 2017. For the past five years have led the design and launch of a new Master of Arts in Higher Education program housed in Elon's School of Education; the third cohort for this two-year program graduated in May of 2021 with the fifth cohort to enroll fall 2022. Continuing to coordinate the program's administrative areas, e.g. apprenticeships, outreach to campus departments, admission (working with Graduate Admissions), professional development, monthly colloquia on hot topics/trends in higher education, alumni engagement and support of the new Graduate Director of the MHE.As Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students, Jackson was responsible for leading the 15 departments that provide student services and support student development. He has been a champion for Elon’s living learning communities and the residential campus initiative; leadership, service learning and civic engagement; religious life and multifaith programs; diversity and inclusion; wellness and counseling services; student organizations and clubs; the Elon Honor Code; and many other student life initiatives. Among the many awards Jackson has received are the Residence Life Golden Key Award; the Phillips-Perry Lifetime Service Award from the Center for Race, Ethnicity, & Diversity and the Black Student Union; the LGBT Alumni Community Enrichment Award; and the Civic Engagement Professional of the Year Award from North Carolina Campus Compact. SGA created the Outstanding Student Mentor Award in his name and the Elon chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary bears his name.
