I am currently a financial services consulstant, primarily in relation to unlisted debt and derivative valuations, as well as the related hedge accounting, IFRS 9 impact and related system implementations.

Cape Town

I was manager in the financial services division, more specifically in audit and valuations advisory. In terms of audit, my client portfolio included Old Mutua(Life Assurance, Specialised Finance, Private Equity and Alternative Investments), Prescient Holdings Group and Argon Asset Management. I was responsible for these projects in terms of client relationships, project management and technical expertise in terms of the regulatory requirements for these clients. In terms of valuations advisory, I was a Manager in the Financial Engineering Group (FEG) at KPMG. This group is the centre of excellence for banking, financial instrument valuation and treasury risk management at KPMG. I was the lead manager in the group for the Cape Town office, and responsible for the internal functions of the group and targeting clients. The group has experienced exponential growth in the last 2 years due to clear demonstration of expertise and strong client relationships. I have been involved in numerous Financial Engineering Group advisory assignments, specialising in the modelling of derivative and non-derivative financial instruments, modelling of renewable energy projects, counterparty credit assignments and other treasury best practice processes. I have assisted numerous clients with the valuation of cash and equity based employee share options schemes. I have gained extensive experience in hedge accounting projects specialising in interest rate and foreign currency hedges. These projects involved hedge documentation reviews, retrospective and prospective hedge effectiveness testing, the construction of hypothetical derivative hedge models and the implementation of feasible hedge accounting solutions. I was also the manager on 2 ISAE3402 engagements (in asset management), this has given me insights into the processes which drive the key risks in an asset manager, and best practices in the industry.

I was Senior Accountant at KPMG Financial Services, Cape Town, involved in audits of asset managers, life companies, pension funds, collective investment schemes and specialized funds in alternative investments. I was also a member of the Financial Engineering Group at KPMG and have experience in performing valuations of unlisted instruments, testing of credit spreads and review processes for credit spreads. I have supervised different teams (ranging from 3-9 members) at clients such as Old Mutual Specialized Finance, Citadel Life, Citadel Asset Management, Argon Asset Management, Efficient Collective Investment Scheme and the Housing, Schools and Education and Affordable Rental Impact Funds of South Africa. I also took an active role in extracurricular activities at KPMG. These have primarily revolved around being a member of the People for People Committee, and the CSI Committee.

The Cape Town Globalist is a student magzine which is part of the 'Global 21' group of magazines housed at universities throughout the world (headed by Yale University). It is a quarterly magazine with a focus on current affairs, providing a platform for students to gain a variety of experience in the process of wiritng, printing and distributing a magazine. In the role of in charge of marketing, it was my responsibility to ensure that the magazine's profile on campus was kept at a suitable standard and I was able to speak to sponsors to be able to get advertising in order to fund the printing of the magazine. This was a great learning experience for me as it was my first exposure to fundraising, and forced me to think in innovative ways to be able to ensure the magazine could be printed. It also provided me with experience of working under pressure as the whole team would work towards producing a magazine on the assumption that I would be able to raise the funds.

The Cape Town Globalist is a student magzine which is part of the 'Global 21' group of magazines housed at universities throughout the world (headed by Yale University). It's focus is on current affairs, providing a platform for students to gain a variety of experience in the process of wiritng, printing and distributing a magazine. As a writer, I was given the opportunity to focus on both domestic and international affairs. The topics ranged ranged from practical applications of mutually assured destruction theory in the Middle East to the changing definition of family in South Africa.

Tutored the Evidence Based Management course. It deals with grounding commerce students in logical thinking and complimenting their quantative studies with qualitative guidance for making decisoins in a world where calculations are more complex, andnot black and white.

This was the pilot program run by the UCT Centre for Higher Education Development as a vehicle to prepare it's students for a post studying environment in which they are equipped to tackle a world which is increasingly globalised and deal with the implications thereof. This included a strong element of being aware of ones responsibilities as a global citizen through multiple paradigms.

Completed the UCT Emerging Student Leaders Program, a program at UCT which is designed to teach students a variety of leadership styles and provide exposure to leaders in various fields in South Africa, providing priceless experience through interaction with them.
