About Sam Lovell
Greetings fellow forward-thinkers! I am passionate about sustainability and community, and my academic and professional development have been driven by my desire to build community-driven strategies that improve quality of life for both people and planet.I graduated from the University of Georgia with an AB in Ecology and Geography, a business minor, and a Sustainability Certificate, and I have fueled my passion through direct experience working with front-line communities facing adverse effects from climate change. By working with organizations such as Athens-based non-profit Shell to Shore and the Coastal Equity and Resilience (CEAR) Hub, I have developed my skills in project management, administration, and community engagement. In these organizational spheres, it is only through humble partnerships with local community organizations, such as Sapelo SOLO, that non-profit work is able to support community-based mitigation strategies against climate threats.I currently work as an Administrative Specialist for the Center for Vaccines and Immunology at UGA's College for Veterinary Medicine where I am exercising my strengths in coordinating both projects and people. In this role, I am a catch-all--molding to fill gaps as they arise, and I continue to learn and develop professionally and personally every day.I am very grateful for the community in which I live and work, and for the people that I support and who support me. My primary purpose is to give back to those that give and to share with those that need. I plan to continue to advocate for grassroots changes that keep people safe and work towards a better, more equitable future.

Administrative Specialist
I work in the Center for Vaccines and Immunology, housed in the College of Veterinary Medicine, where I serve as the administrative engine and the wheels on the ground to keep the center running smoothly. In this role, I wear many hats and manage the minutia of various projects to advance the center's pursuit to serve as a world-class, intellectual environment for the discovery and production of novel vaccine technologies. On a day-to-day basis, I correspond with various individuals across numerous projects and capitalize on my capability to successfully multi-task and provide efficient and creative results. Primarily, I work to identify and fill gaps in our enterprises for the overall improvement of human and animal health.
Customer Service Lead
As a shift lead, I was responsible for supervising customer service functions and resolving customer complaints, problems, and requests. This position also involved supervising other team members in the appropriate completion of daily and otherwise assigned tasks. I was also responsible for managing money and training new team members. At this job, I was promoted within my first year of employment to this lead position conducting supervisorial duties, and I was further promoted in 2024 to serve as back-up for the managerial Scan Coordinator position. This requires attention to detail for managing products, inventory, and pricing as well as communicating with corporate headquarters to adequately carry-out assigned tasks as well as identify, report, and remedy scan issues. Further, in November of 2023, I was the top front end team member in the entire national corporation in collecting donations for the local foodbank with over $3k raised.
Intern & Volunteer Coordinator
As a supervisor and intern coordinator for this organization, I helped to manage the collection of 50k+ lbs. of oyster shells for reef restoration and coastal community resilience. My job also involved the coordinating of volunteers and interns through successful communication and planning in order to facilitate the actual collection and distribution of the shell. Additionally, many of our partnerships at events involved productive, customer-centered communication and effective coordination of all-day events for shell collection. As an early member of this non-profit, I also have had the opportunity to collaborate with board members at meetings on fundraising, grant opportunities, further outreach, and the like to set a successful future trajectory for the non-profit.
Project Intern
Shell to Shore is a non-profit operating out of Athens, Georgia focused on collecting discarded oyster shells from restaurant and event partners to divert them from the landfill. As intern, I aided in the collection and management of shell and was involved in developing partnerships with restaurants and event organizations through recruitment and research. Many of our partnerships at events involved educational outreach regarding sustainable aquaculture, coastal resilience, and other social benefits for our coastal community partners.
