Profile bio

About Sam Markey

I am an accomplished leader, an effective communicator and an experienced agitator for improvement. Experienced in strategic analysis and foresight, fostering innovation, customer insight and opinion research, policy implementation and managing change, I have a track record of delivering work that is accurate, engaging and agenda setting. In recent years I have worked at the heart of Whitehall, analysing and driving the implementation of one of Government's highest priority policies (Better Care Fund). Before that, as author of the original 'Barnet Graph of Doom', I influenced the national debate on local services and was a key player in the development of one of the most innovative councils in local government (“Graph of Doom: a bleak future for social care services”, Guardian Online, 15 May 2012). I am a Shaper (Belbin) – ambitious, full of ideas, and eager to take the initiative where possible. I have an eloquent and accessible style, able to translate complex ideas and communicate confidently, clearly and appropriately across a variety of media (spoken, slides, written and web). I have strong people management skills; whether through direct line management responsibility or use of soft power and influencing, I get things done.Specialties: Separating the wheat from the chaff, clear communication, stakeholder engagement and brokering connections, creative solutions, social media, insight and analysis, unfettered optimism, foresight, horizon scanning, leadership.

Listed skills include Stakeholder Engagement, Policy, Strategy, Public Sector, and 32 others.
