Stephen is a registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC. He has over 5 years experience as a Design Engineer in the built environment consulting industry, including design and project management. His projects have included heating plant upgrades for schools throughout BC, refrigeration plant upgrades at ice rink facilities, ventilation and plant design for recreation centres, residential and commercial buildings, and design of controlled environment agriculture (CEA) facilities. He has experience working with retrofits of a variety of existing buildings, and design of new builds.Stephen earned a B. Eng in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria in 2016. During his degree, he volunteered with the Engineering Students' Society for over three years and held multiple leadership positions, including VP External and President. He competed in multiple engineering student competitions, including the Canadian Engineering Competition, where he won the national prize for Communications. Stephen was also enrolled in the co-op work program, where he applied his skills in engineering and project management to four work-term employers in between academic terms.Stephen has a strong passion for leadership and leadership development. Since his involvement as a teenager in the YM-YWCA Leadership Development program, he has striven to incorporate the lessons he learned about leadership values and responsibility into all aspects of his work and to help teach the same skills to those around him. He volunteered with the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students as Commissioner of Leadership Development to promote a knowledge base of leadership and communication skills with engineering students across Canada, and volunteered with EGBC as a member-at-large to assist in organising professional development events and review scholarship applications from university students.Stephen moved to Scotland in the fall of 2022, where he completed a M.Sc. in Advanced Mechanical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. He is currently working as an M&E consultant, pursuing his interests in the built environment and CEA.
