Books have always been a keen interest of mine, but I never realized how organized I liked them until I became a library technician! I have been a Library Technician with the Halton District School Board most recently. Connecting with students and staff to get them what they need is a major part of that role. I have harnessed the reference interview to make sure that I answer both the questions they are asking and the ones they don’t even think to ask. At home or work I am always up for solving a problem, whether for a friend, a client or a colleague. I may not always have an answer, but we will find it together. I never hesitate to reach out to experts in order to get the best solution or the right answer. In my various roles I have been part of a number of teams/groups. I’m often found taking a step back and observing to see if we’re approaching our challenge from the right angle or if there is another perspective that would work better. Being able to build on and support others’ ideas is one of my favourite parts of working on a team. When working individually I focus best on my own, most often listening to music. I enjoy diving deep into my work, giving it my undivided attention so that I can complete it to the best of my abilities. I consider myself a lifelong learner. I have never stopped educating myself, whether it is taking a formal course or reading the latest news, I like to keep up to date in my skills and developments in the industry. Technology is a tool that has become incorporated into so much of our lives. I embrace it and share my knowledge about how best to use it as much as I can, especially when it can make a task easier or more efficient.
