I am a publishing consultant and founder of Literary Safari, an agency that produces and supports educational and entertainment companies in creating inclusive children’s media. I have worked closely with trade authors on collections for school markets and have broad experience in educational publishing. A Webby nominated producer, I was the creator and executive producer of The Story Seeds Podcast, a kids and family show that empowers young people's creativity and voices. My literacy app HangArt, was selected Best of 2016 EdTech by Common Sense Media. Born in Ghana and raised there, in India, and in the United States, I hold an undergraduate degree in History and a Masters in International and Public Affairs from Columbia University. I have served on the the Education Committee of the Museum of Arts and Design and was a founding member of KIDMAP (Kids' Inclusive and Diverse Media Action Project), an interdisciplinary coalition that developed best practices toolkits for children’s media producers with support of the Joan Ganz Cooney Research Center at Sesame Workshop. My writing has been published in The Lily (Washington Post), The New York Times, Quartz, Ms. Magazine, and Toca Boca Magazine, and I have presented at conferences including CineKid, Google EdFoo, Games for Change Festival, OMEP (Organisation Mondiale pour l’Education Préscolaire” (World Organisation for Early Childhood Education and Care) World Conference, UNESCO Forum on Global Citizenship Education, and PBS Celebration of Teaching and Learning.My agency Literary Safari offers editorial and strategic content consulting services and works with education and entertainment companies to produce and publish inclusive media and curriculum inspired by the 4 C’s of 21st century education—Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication, and Collaboration. The Story Seeds Podcast, Creator & Executive ProducerLiterary Safari Aug 2019 - Sep 2023Conceptualized, exec produced, and launched a kids + family podcast Story Seeds. The podcast brings diverse children ages 6-12 and authors together at the same table to collaborate on a story. It is hosted by librarian and children's book author Betsy Bird. Authors include Jason Reynolds, Aram Kim, Dan Gutman, Chris Grabenstein, and Veera Hiranandani. Since its launch in March 2020, The Story Seeds Podcast has been featured in Apple iTunes/Podcasts, Spotify, The New York Times, Time for Kids, Book Riot ("10 best bookish podcasts), Wired ("Best Kids Podcasts"), CBC ("7 Kids Podcasts that are Perfect for Family Listening"), NPR, Today.com Parents, and School Library Journal ("Story Seeds: A Podcast for Our Time"). Story Seeds is one of 21 kids and family podcasts to have been awarded the inaugural Common Sense Media Selection Seal for podcasts. And National Ambassador for Young People's Literature, Jason Reynolds, describes the show as "one of the best podcasts ever." As of August 2024, we have nearly 400,000 downloads. Our activity book Imagination Lab: Experiments in Creativity is a Wirecutter /NYT "Best Gifts for 10 Year Olds" selection and has sold 3000+ copies. It offers children ages 8-12 activities that pair with ten episodes of our podcast. During the summer of 2020-2021, we conducted youth podcasting workshops for kids and teens.
