I manage a team of software developers that is responsible for building the software platform for Medeo. Our platform is composed of multiple technologies including Ruby on rails, AngularJS, Lua and Node.JS. Our development culture promotes the polyglot language philosophy where we use the best technology for the job. My general responsibilities:• Software development - I spend about 50% of my time writing code for our product, we are an agile development team, with a 2 week development cycle at the end of which we release to production.• Product planning - I am one of three people the meet regularly to determine the direction of our product. I represent engineering in these meetings and it is my job to ensure that our road map contains the time required to build quality software and reduce our overall technical debt.• Developer engagement - I am personally motivated to ensure our developers are getting the most out of their time at Medeo. I managed four development teams that work on the XQ Interactive retail product suite.Achievements:• Shipped a new XQ product built on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform, using Backbone JS/HTML as front end, NancyFX / C# application server and Mongo DB as our persistence store. • Introduced a lean development process based on continuous delivery that enabled our team to build new product features rapidly, create automated tests and reduce the amount of tech debt in the product.• Implemented a suite of analytic's capture and data visualization tools to help our engineers and product managers make product decisions based on user behavior.• Delivered new XQ 2.0 technology platform that enables XQ to be deployed to multiple devices such as IOS, Android and Windows based systems. • Our product now has over 2000 deployments in the field and my team was the 2012 recipient of the Microsoft ISV software partner of the year award.General Responsibilities:• As the development manager I am responsible for all staff in the XQ engineering team. I conduct regular one-on-one meetings with my engineers as well as quarterly performance reviews. I also look for opportunities to encouraging continuous learning through book clubs, organizing hackathons and finding relevant training courses and events.• It is also my responsibility to recruit new staff members and maintain adequate team resourcing based on our roadmap and development schedule.• Customer Presentations – Attending customer meetings to present on the technical elements of our product and our development process.• I am a joint owner of the XQ road map and I work with our UX lead and our business analysts to define our product roadmap based on strategy of rapid prototyping and market validation.• I am also an active software developer and I spend approximately 20-30% of my time writing code.

My day to day responsibilities include managing a cross functional team of 3 developers and 2 QA. We run an agile development methodology which means running daily stand-ups and having 2 week iterations. My role involves pairing with my developers and working closely with our QA / BA to produce high quality solutions. Achievements:• XETrade – XE.Com is the world’s largest currency exchange website and their key product offering (XETrade) was designed, built and maintained by my team. This solution had to be secure, reliable and perform well under heavy load with thousands of concurrent users.• Customer Signup CRM Project – The business requested that all new customer signups were to be managed out of MS Dynamics. We facilitated this request by creating a new workflow in Dynamics and integrating our customer signup application with the API’s in Dynamics so that customers who sign up automatically appeared in Dynamics for provisioning.• SaleForce.Com Project - The business needed more control over FX markups for customers and they wanted to manage this information out of SalesForce.Com. To deliver this project my team built integration between our application server and SaleForce.Com. We used sales force’s APIs to populate the customer information as well as FX markups. We also developed a custom SalesForce.Com App using APEX code to allow our users to set FX markups based on rules. • Mobile App project – My team designed and built a mobile interface to the SPP FX application. We built the mobile app using JQuery mobile and the ASP.MVC framework.
