MGnify is the open resource for analysis and archival of microbiome metagenomic data, run by the Finn team. I am a senior fullstack developer on the platform, developing data analysis tools, web APIs and interfaces, and associated infrastructure and processes. SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENTI work with our bioinformaticians and research team to build services for the scientific community, so I'm involved in multiple projects and codebases. These are mostly web based, and almost all open source. Some of the codebases are large, collaborative, and involve maintaining and improving significant amounts of legacy and complex interdependencies. Some are new and involve mostly solo development from a whiteboard sketch to a functioning service. These are mostly Python and Javascript codebases with a mix of databases and deployment strategies. Most EBI services run in a dedicated data centre and some run on hybrid or cloud like AWS, so a fair amount of devops is involved. We run on both Kubernetes clusters and virtual machines.TRAINING DELIVERYI also work on training content development and delivery for our services. We deliver live user training courses, design coding-based practicals, write user documentation, and I created and manage our Jupyter Lab platform serving data analysis examples. I am MGnify's representative on EBI's User Training Working Group.

Saberr build a web platform that helps teams of coworkers work well together, a mix of workplace tools and a digital approach to team coaching. My role was broad, but included:• Data science. I led our understanding of natural language processing, and developed our ML/NLP features within CoachBot. Data projects, including analytics as well as client-data projects. • Software development, in development team sizes between solo and 5. Python/Flask/Django REST APIs backend. Javascript/React/Redux frontends. Many AWS services underneath.• Product development. Worked within a product team of between 1 and 7 people on user research, feature development in design sprints and workshops, prioritisation. • Management. Part of the 4-person founders team, with shared management and strategic responsibilities.
