Embedded Systems R&D Engineer
Development of embedded systems, its software and system architecture. Internship leading up to a summer job.ARK specializes in maritime environmental solutions and support companies towards making plans for a greener future. The involves collecting data and information from various sources. The internship focused on designing devices/measurement-solutions that could be placed in ships or factories temporarily to collect data and stream data securely at all times. I designed a solution with a small SoC running embedded Linux and a MCU to collect and preprocess data from sensors industrial sensors such as non-invasive AC current sensor, flow meters, etc. This particular solution was placed in a research ship that travel around Iceland with the hardware and kept a constant flow of data through 2/3/4G connection; depending on the signal available.A few solutions with different requirements were designed but similar tools and platforms were used:- Python, Bash and C- Linux OS- MySQL- MQTT and HTTPS- Visual basic- Amazon Web Services (AWS)- Hardware: various 8-bit Atmel AVR chips and Raspberry pi 1/2/3Working at ARK helped me understand what it takes to design and implement robust industrial solutions.
Control Systems Engineering Intern
Industrial Control Systems, Gas and Oil Industry, Industrial Communication, Industrial Networking. The internship of CRI was a valuable experience and a gave me a first glance at troubleshooting industrial solutions. Starting with intensive research on process and flow diagrams to understand the fundamentals of the solution. Then a major task was to create an extensive map of various parts of the control system and then to connect them together. Series of tasks had to be solved; focusing on the control system infrastructure of the methanol production plant. This included working with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems on a large industrial scale in a hazardous environment. Then working with human machine interfaces (HMIs) and optimizing hardware setups and estimating required maintenance or replacements. Research on automatic PID tuning controllers was carried out as a preliminary research towards a more autonomous control system.CRI motivated me to pursue control systems in the future as a part of my academic carrier as its understanding is a valuable asset.
