A lot of my work however is informed by the various projects I have been involved with since my early graduate days, skills/knowledge which I find I reach back into continually as part of my toolkit. I've done work in:1. cell biology (neurosciences), including cultured cell CaPi transfections, maintenance2. protein biochemistry, including subcellular fractionation, conjugation, membrane protein binding studies, manual peptide synthesis, colorimetric assays, RP- and IE-HPLC, MALDI-TOF, and DS calorimetry)3. whole animal studies, including olfactory bulb ablations, surgeries, perfusions, organ harvesting.4. nucleic acid biochemistry, including probe and assay design, peptide nucleic acid semi-automated synthesis and purification, locked nucleic acid designs.If there isn't a solution, then I'll inevitably figure one out :)A small change in perspective can open up a world of possibilities...

I designed and developed novel assays for more challenging targets using LNAs, as well as other conceptual designs for the QX-200 and its use of DNA-binding dyes. I helped characterize assay behavior in droplets and how their biophysical properties could be uniquely exploited through partitioning, as well as deduced how the data correlated to the inherent properties of the target species. I presented these results internally and to international colleagues, academic institutions and conferences.
