My name is Sofia, I'm 40 years old, I was born in Porto, in the most beautiful city in Portugal 😊Like the people from the North of Portugal, what best defines me is being very genuine and really enjoying people, relating closely, and taking care of people.I'm a medical doctor, an infectious disease specialist, because that's how I really define myself.My cornerstone is family, once again, personally and professionally. I am a mother of a miracle baby, an extremely premature baby, who has challenged life several times and is now a 3 year old girl with some special needs, but healthy, really a survivor.I have been working in Gilead for more than 9 years now, always dedicated to HIV, since March 2020 also to COVID-19 and since June 2022 to IFI. I really loved working at the Hospital, I have the patient centricity inside myself, as my priority, always stood up for patients. It was totally disrupted, really transformational, my decision to join Gilead's Medical Department, a very thoughtful one, but one I'm very proud of.While working on HIV I grew up and learned a lot, in an area that I really like, even though it is not my favorite area of ​​Infectious Diseases. Classical and Acute/Emerging Diseases have always been my favorites ones. Unfortunately COVID-19 happened, which has become, fortunately, one of the most rewarding professional experiences I've had to date, sometimes and for the first time so rewarding as it was to be in clinical practice. For example, having the opportunity to be reviewer for the Compassionate Use Program for Remdesivir during the first huge peak of the pandemic. COVID-19 allowed me to navigate the matrix of an acute/pandemic disease, manage the unforeseen, challenge all timelines and, thus, keep myself highly motivated.It has been very challenging to work at the same time in a mature and established therapeutic area as HIV and in an acute, undefined and constantly boiling area as COVID19. I am currently looking forward to what is to come, what will happen to COVID-19 and Gilead's contributions against this pandemic and above all, curious to understand what will motivate me as much or more after this huge experience.
