Student Library Assistant
CurrentIn my role as an Student Library Employee (SLE) in the Resource Sharing Division (RSD), I am responsible for providing comprehensive Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services. This involves facilitating the borrowing and lending of library materials both within UC Berkeley and with external institutions. My key responsibilities include:- Processing Requests: Managing incoming library materials to fulfill borrowing requests from UC Berkeley patrons in accordance with circulation lending policies and procedures.- Handling lending requests for UC Berkeley materials from local, domestic, and international institutions, ensuring compliance with circulation lending policies- Using Library Software: Utilizing specialized library software to check-out and check-in materials, update requests, and maintain accurate records.- Material Retrieval and Delivery: Retrieving and delivering materials across multiple libraries on campus.- Digitization: Scanning and digitizing library materials using various scanners to facilitate remote access.- Shipping Preparation: Preparing library materials for shipping to other institutions.- Customer Service: Providing excellent customer service at the RSD public service desk, including greeting patrons and managing check-ins and check-outs via the library's circulation system, along with addressing patron inquiries in person and over the phone regarding library use and the UC Library Search online catalog, and referring patrons to appropriate library staff when necessary.- Shelving and Organization: Retrieving and shelving library materials with a thorough understanding of the Library of Congress classification system.
