Sofia Kapsourou is a Greek prominent playwright, lyricist, director, actress, based currently in Athens, Greece. She was educated at Iasmos Drama School of Athens and the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Chanel (2020), Auntielogue (2020), Strike (2019), Viscosis (2019), Sexton and the Coyotes (2018), Schumann (2017), Lovers on canvas (2011, honored by UNESCO Club of the Department of Piraeus and Islands) are all of her plays. Her work has been commissioned and produced by the National Theatre of Greece (Shumann, staged two years 2017-2018), the National Theatre of China, Regional Theatres, presented to Napoli Teatro Festival 2019 and Festival Internacional de Poesia y Arte Grito de Mujer 2016. Her plays have been chosen to be studied at the Postgraduate Study Programme of the Department of Theatre Studies (University of Greece), translated and published into English, Italian, Spanish. She directed and orchestrated the stage production of her plays Lovers on canvas, staged for five years (2012-2017) and Sexton and the Coyotes, staged for two years (2018-2019).She was the first playwright assigned by the National Theatres of Greece and China to edit and rewrite the prose and the chorales of the ancient Chinese zaju play Zhao the Orphan by Ji Junxiang. The play was directed in 2018 by the distinguished Chinese director Dr Wang Xiaoying, vice president of the China Theatre Association and former executive vice president of National Theatre of China. As a lyricist she has an ongoing collaboration with Minos-Emi, a Universal Music Company writing lyrics for movies and famous Greek singers.As an actress she has participated in numerous plays and performances such as Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck (2016), A prelude for Cavafis (2013), Our Town by Thornton Wilder (2012-2013), Bacchae by Euripides (2006) etc. She has also performed at The Athens Concert Hall (2014) and worked with famous Greek directors such as Stathis Livathinos, former artistic director of the National Theatre of Greece. She has appeared in the international production Kings of Mykonos (2010) by Peter Andrikidis. She teaches theatrical education, dramaturgy and theatre adaptation to children, teenagers, adults and professional actors and playwrights. She has participated in the workshop on Odyssey for young directors and dramaturgs by the internationally acclaimed Polish theatre director Krzysztof Warlikowski, which was hosted by Athens & Epidaurus Festival 2019.
