Sofia Mattesini is a Historic Tax Credit Consultant at Ryan. Colleagues describe her as "As Chicago Office Director at MacRostie Historic Advisors LLC, I was Sofia Mattesini’s colleague and supervisor from 2021 to 2022. We worked together on historic tax credit applications, National Register nominations and local landmark designations, and general preservation design consultation projects.
Sofia came to the company with State Historic Preservation Office experience under her belt and she quickly learned our business and the skills needed to be a successful private preservation consultant. Sofia is a great “diplomat” when it comes to negotiating our developer client’s rehabilitation visions and the requirements of federal, state and local designation and incentive programs. After only a few months on the job, Sofia had built close and productive relationships with our clients and with the federal, state and local regulators reviewing our clients’ rehabilitation projects.
Sofia quickly became a good collaborator in the office and a much needed resource for our clients. She has mastered the “Secretary’s Standards” for rehabilitation design and has a great instinct for historic preservation and how federal, state, and local preservation policies are applied to projects big and small.
Most importantly, I found Sofia to be a great self-starter, “owning” her assigned projects, thinking strategically and creating her own deadlines, and not afraid to take on challenging projects or clients.
Sofia has become a good friend over our time working together. I can’t recommend her more highly!" and "Sofia is a wonderful young professional who continually strives to improve her work environment. She did a terrific job for us covering the entire Northern Region of the State of South Dakota as a Historic Preservation Specialist. Her knowledge and expertise in historic architecture was invaluable in preserving numerous culturally and historically significant sites and properties located throughout the state. She will be sorely missed as she goes on to pursue further graduate studies, to enhance an already impressive resume!
