Adviser for Science and European Affairs of the Portuguese Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education. Monitoring all matters related to research and innovation in Portugal, in particular science policies and funding dedicated to research through the Foundation for Science and Technology and other matters related to the national scientific and technological system. Additionally, following of the European matters, essentially the issues discussed in the European Council with regard to Research and Space, which include close monitoring of the current Horizon Europe framework programme.

- Coordinator of the Scientific Strategy and Funding Unit at NOVA Research Office, inparticular activities related with the search of funding from National and Internationalentities in order to increase the performance of NOVA's researchers also at nationaland international level;- Development of collaborations and synergies between the different academic andresearch units that belongs to NOVA. Work developed at the pre-award level andcoordination activities related with this phase of the funding process (i.e. since internaldissemination of funding opportunities until the submission of the final proposal);- Monitoring of the results and scientific outputs resulting from the different calls aswell as the follow-up of these calls. In parallel, organization of courses and workshopsto enhance the talent at NOVA and dissemination activities such as conferences andthe production/edition of an internal science magazine.- In addition, coordination of the scientific activities related with Gender Equality basedin one of the strategies of NOVA University Lisbon, which intends to implement aGender Equality Plan in Academia and Research. Development of networks withEuropean Universities with experience on this topic to develop a GEP and further thecreation of an Equal Opportunities Office.

Scientific Officer at the Evaluation Office at the Portuguese Foundation for Science andTechnology (FCT), the national funding agency that supports science, technology andinnovation, in all scientific domains, under responsibility of the Ministry of Science,Technology and Higher Education. The work consisted in the management of scienceand technology, in particular supporting the Board of Directors in the programmingand supervision of the different evaluation processes launched by FCT. The mainfunctions were to design, implement and monitor, in collaboration with the variousdepartments of the agency, robust evaluation processes, respecting the bestinternational practices, for the various national and international tenders launched byFCT.

Researcher as Post-Doc at the Bioorganic Chemistry Laboratory for the start-upcompany ExtremoChem under the supervision of Dr Rita Ventura. The research workconsisted in the synthesis, characterization and quantification of carbohydratesderivatives to be assessed as thermostabilizers of proteins using fluorescence-basedthermal shift (ThermoFluor®) assay. During the same period, a parallel work wasdeveloped in collaboration with Dr Karina Xavier's research group (IGC, Oeiras,Portugal). This work aimed the development and synthesis of different DPD analoguesas well as the design of new strategies to attach DPD and their derivatives to opticalreporters called QDs. This allowed the understanding of molecular mechanisms insidebacteria and the study of AI-2quorum-sensing receptors.

PhD Student in Engineering Sciences and Technology (OrganicChemistry/Nanobiotechnology field). The Doctoral work relied on the synthesis,functionalization and bioconjugation of nanoparticles, particularly Quantum Dots (QDs),for biological applications. The work was conducted under the supervision of Prof DrChristopher Maycock and Dr Abel Oliva. The research developed was the synthesis ofmonodisperse nanoparticles, particularly Quantum Dots (QDs), and its functionalizationwith different hydrophilic ligands (biocompatible organic molecules) for furtherbio-conjugation with biomolecules such as antibodies or proteins stable in biologicalenvironment. The characterization of these nanomaterials included many techniques inthe nanoscience and biology areas, such as imaging (TEM, fluorescence microscopy,etc.), measurement of size distribution or density charge of nanoparticles by dynamiclight scattering (DLS) and molecular biology techniques including the production andpurification of antibodies/proteins using ÄKTA system. During this period, I had also asmall experience in BIAcore (Surface Plasmon Resonance technology). SPR was appliedin order to try to evaluate the bimolecular interactions/bio-conjugation processbetween nanoparticles (QDs) and antibodies. Two common covalent bio-conjugationstrategies were applied: amine coupling through reductive amination and aminecoupling via reactive esters.
