I am the Principal Designer and CEO of ES Design, which is an architecture and interior design firm based in Islamabad, Pakistan. We design and construct projects ranging from residential, commercial, retail and hospitality projects. We are a collaborative and multi-disciplinary studio and believe in the holistic integration of the vernacular with modern design. We are a husband and wife team with my husband being an architect with a keen interest in urban design. Our philosophy is to treat each site as a unique narrative, allowing its intrinsic characteristics and history to shape its own story. By carefully observing and listening to the site, we enable its natural essence to guide our design process, ensuring that every project we undertake is a true reflection of its surroundings and heritage.

My versatile portfolio includes designing and executing projects for the International Marriott hotel chains, multi-story malls, and apartment buildings. As a practicing Interior Designer, I have always been passionate about sharing my knowledge and insights gained from my Master’s degree in Interior Design. I have actively hosted interior design workshops and taught short courses in Interior Design, complementing my professional projects with educational initiatives. Hence my role in LUMS was as an interior design instructor for my custom designed short interior course that was open to post graduates of relevant fields.The six week course ran multiple sessions successfully every year for three years and was the top rated course with the most participants in the CES ranking of short courses. Lahore University of Management and Sciences is one of the most prestigious universities in Pakistan, hence it was an honor for me to be able to collaborate and teach in their institution.

With a strong interest in educational initiatives, I found my role as an Assistant Professor of Interior Design at the School of Architecture, Design, and Urbanism to be incredibly fulfilling. At the Institute of Art and Culture, I embraced the opportunity to mentor students, engage in research, and participate in workshops and seminars, which fostered an innovative and curious mindset within me. I particularly enjoyed teaching and developing the foundational course outlines for the interior design degree. While developing the course content for the interior design degree, I embarked on an in-depth exploration of furniture design, textile design, and color theories. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with a diverse and accomplished panel of professors on the university staff.

Upon returning from my Master's program in Interior Design at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, I was driven by a passionate enthusiasm to specialize in interior design. I seized the opportunity to collaborate with Norwegian Interior Designer Julie Johnsen in establishing and pioneering an interior department for Kit and Kaboodle. This role allowed me to curate furniture, lighting, and products from global sources, while visualizing and executing luxurious high-end residential projects. It also deepened my understanding of visual merchandising and highlighted the significance of furniture and accessories in interior design.

Upon graduating with a Bachelor’s in Architecture from the National College of Arts, I joined an architecture firm where I gained practical, on-site experience in design execution. I am grateful for this platform, which allowed me to actively participate in design projects and gain a comprehensive understanding of project implementation. In my role as a junior architect, I was involved in every phase of a project—from conception to execution—while managing client presentations and preparing presentation materials. Additionally, I valued the opportunity to manage and conduct several international conferences on architecture and design as a secretary to the Board of Architectural Education, a division of the Institute of Architects Pakistan, the regulatory body for architects in Pakistan.
