Hello! My name is Sofia, and I have a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Trinity University. I am incredibly passionate about learning from the world and teaching others through the lens of anthropology. I am currently living and working in Spain as an English Language Auxiliary as part of the Education Ministry of Spain's North American Language and Culture Assistants Program (NALCAP). I work in a high school leading small group conversations, encouraging students to speak English, and teaching them all about the USA. Last year I lived in Hong Kong, working at a university running their English Language Services. For the past year I have also worked as a freelance English tutor online, meeting with dozens of students weekly to help them improve their English! While doing this, I have been able to meet people from all over the world, from a wide variety of language backgrounds, and of all ages. I am passionate about helping people learn to communicate, and teaching myself how to help them has been an incredible journey! In order to find students, I have had to learn how to market myself and what it takes to build a name for yourself as a freelancer. After lots of research and work, I have built a large client base. After the last few years abroad teaching English and learning all there is to learn about the world, the stories people have to tell, and how they tell them, I have decided to pursue a masters degree in museum studies! I hope to start by the fall of 2025 and then spend time gaining hands-on experience working in museums. My goal is to eventually pursue a PhD in Anthropology and become a curator! I want to work with museums all around the world, repatriating artifacts and helping to curate ethical and narrative-driven exhibits by, for, and about marginalized communities.

I spend my time working at a secondary school helping with their English Language courses. I give presentations on American culture, lead small group discussions, encourage students to converse, and give them feedback on their assignments!
I spend every week meeting one-on-one with multiple students. I help people from a variety of backgrounds reach their language goals. In this role I was on a five persom team running the English Language Support Services at Lingnan University. During my time here I met one-on-one with students tutoring their writing, speaking, reading and listening. I helped students study for the IELTs, prepare for job interviews, and aided them with their coursework. I planed and executed social events as well as academic writing and professionalism workshops. I also ran the ELSS Instagram which saw a 200% increase in engagement.Through this role I also had the opportunity to be an Assistant Teacher for a few of the English Language courses at Lingnan. I have given lectures, led activities, and aided students in their course work all while receiving feedback from multiple incredibly experienced course instructors.
