The core of my research is epidemiology of an antibiotic resistant bacteria called ESBL-producing E. coli in Sweden and internationally. I focus on healthy human community carriers and try to understand what role they play in the transmission chain between foods, farm animals, environment and severe infections in humans. My main research task at the moment is to investigate the genome and plasmid diversity of the successful ESBL-producing E. coli clone ST131, from a Swedish perspective, by using Bayesian inference to track phylogenetic trajectories.
