*The Au Pair program is an international cultural exchange that gave me the possibility for young people to spend some time abroad in the United States of America. I lived for one year in Cleveland, Ohio and three years in San Francisco, California. I learned more about the American culture and improved my skills in a foreign language in exchange for help with duties related to childcare, like meal preparation, transportation to school and other activities, washing and folding their laundry, morning routine for children, playtime together, planning activities for the children to implement their education and support with their school work and help with the bedtime routine.* I took care of children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 15.* For a year, I assisted an eight years old boy with high functioning autism. I took part in his speech and occupational therapies and swimming lessons. I learned to communicate with him using an iPad, using a specific program and could support him with learning activities to help him with his speech and routine and chores. * I also took care of four children with ADHD and ADD disorder. I supported them with their routine, gave them additional support with their school work, and worked on their attention deficit with specific activities. * I could attend different language courses for English as a second language and participated in a course to improve my language skills and meet new people. I also spend a semester completing a course in Additional Needs Children at the College of Notre Dame, Ohio, USA.* The program allowed me to complete an intensive training course reviewing child safety and child development and earn a 2-year paediatric CPR/AED certification. I met a certificate at the Training School for 32 hours.
