I completed my ASYE year of practice within the Child in Care team.

Following my successful completion of my social work degree, I worked as a Family Worker within the Family Assessment and Support Team. This was an opportunity to consolidate my learning within a non-statutory role. Completing Signs of Well-being assessments, managing child support plans.

As part of my PGDip in Social Work with UWE under the DFE 'Step Up to Social Work' Scheme, I completed my 100 day placement with Cornwall Council in the Family Assessment and Support Team.Primarily completing assessments of need under section 17 of The Children’s Act (1989).

Working in a refuge for victims of domestic abuse, my role was to assist in the provision of services to the women and children living within the refuge. I acted as the first point of contact for customers, prospective customers, visitors and outside agencies. I performed a full range of administrative duties such as responding to telephone calls and emails, receiving referrals for the service, assisting in the admission process as well as collecting rents, assisting with housing benefit applications, updating paper and computer filing systems and providing information as required by the Project Manager. I often lone-worked and was responsible for the wellbeing of all women and children in refuge, providing emotional support when needed as well as carrying out health and safety assess-ments. This role involves the handling of personal information and liaising with agencies such as housing and social care, whilst working within confidentiality procedures as well as data protection laws

Volunteer for ASHA stoke on Trent, an organisation that supports refugees and asylum seekers. I volunteered with the women’s and children’s group on Saturday morning, helping to organise and facilitate activities and projects

The main role of the Resident Support Assistant was to act as the university's 'front line' of support for students in regards to issues that may arise in student accommodation, ensuring that students living in on-campus ac-commodation had the best experience. My duties as a resident support assistant included: being 'on call' once a week, responding to fire alarms and noise complaints, carrying out 'welfare checks' on distressed students, regularly visiting my allocated accommodation blocks and, alongside the rest of the resident support team, run-ning campaigns in for the students living in halls - such as STI Screening and Anti-Bullying. In addition to this, I was also responsible for writing formal reports and ensuring that they are processed correctly and promptly to the university student support team, as well as to my fellow resident support assistants where appropriate whilst also strictly adhering to the departments confidentiality policies.
