B.S. in Animal Nutritional Sciences at West Virginia University. DVM Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine - current.My love for animals started when I began working at Creekside kennel, where I provided husbandry for all types of animals such as dogs, cats, iguanas, rabbits, Guineafowls, etc. Ive shadowed over 100 hours at paw print veterinarian clinic. Here I was able to view appointments, aid in surgical procedures, aid with blood and fecal samples, learn bed side manner, see a variety of treatment methods, and so much more. I also participated in a professional field experience in a northern European country, Estonia. I was able to gain hands on experience at the large animal farm and some in the small animal hospital. I observed many procedures both large and small animal. Additional techniques learned, administer GnRh vaccines, help with hoofing treatments, help collect blood cultures on equine, collect ovarian follicles for research, dehorn calves, collect DNA samples, do physical exams, and work in the research lab. As part of my undergraduate I aided in poultry research on experimental mash treatments and provided husbandry for the chicks. Post undergraduate I interned at the Cincinnati zoo under the curator of nutrition learning about a variety of different species, nutritional requirements, diet analysis, and hand-rearing techniques. I work at Fairmont Veterinary Hospital as a veterinary assistant where I preform the initial examination of the animal, practice proper handling and restraint of animals, place catheters, draw and administer medications/vaccines, anesthetize patients for surgery, preform lab diagnostics, draw blood, and check vital signs. In this hospital I work both wellness and emergency appointments. In addition to hands on duties, I provide education to animal owners, maintain a positive grantee, resolve ethical dilemmas, and create a hospitable environment for both patient and owner.
