I am a recent graduate of Emory University, with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in French studies. As a native Spanish speaker, I am working towards obtaining a more global perspective and having the ability to communicate with many groups of people around the world. Through my work as a Medical Interpreter, I gained a unique perspective as to the challenges Limited English Proficiency patients face throughout their medical interactions. Even just having an interpreter present in these interactions leads to higher rates of patient satisfaction, improved quality of care, and makes limited proficiency patients more likely to trust medical professionals in the future. Because of this experience, I aim to focus my work on diversification and equity within the medical field. All in all, my goal is to become a physician-researcher, and hopefully create positive change for my community as well as the medical community overall.I am currently working full-time as a researcher in Dr. Craig Coopersmith’s lab at Emory School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery. I am studying intestinal epithelial migration in sepsis using the murine pneumonia model.
