About Sofia Augusto
I received a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Lisbon in 2012. In 2013, I was awarded an Intra-European Marie Curie Fellowship, and the following year, I moved to Tarragona (Spain) for two years to work on my Marie Curie project at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). In 2016, I moved back to Portugal to work on a postdoctoral project at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP), where I integrated the EPIUnit (Epidemiology Research Unit).Currently, I work as a Administrative Officer and Project Manager for the Portuguese Ecological Society (SPECO) and for the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). I am also a Researcher at the Centre for Ecology, Evolution, and Environment Change (cE3c) and at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto.My research focuses on understanding the relationships between humans and the environment from a human health standpoint. For many years, I have been involved in studying the impact of anthropogenic activity on air quality. In recent years, I have been engaged in understanding how human health is affected not only by anthropogenic activities but also by natural events (e.g., forest fires). More recently, I have started to include climate change in the equation of my interests.
