Studying French and Italian at university provided me with a thorough insight on foreign language learning, as well as the cultures of the two countries. Beyond the curriculum of my degree, I gained a broad literary insight that has guided me towards my interest in writing. As well as learning two languages in depth throughout five intensive years, I have also developed valuable literacy skills, writing my own articles and poems, which were published in several editions of the University magazine. On a personal level, this interest in languages and writing has transferred into musical interest, having produced several of my own songs. Since graduating, I have explored different options, working initially within retail to gain professional skills such as customer service, team work, problem-solving, time-management, and working within a busy workplace. This allowed me to grow in confidence and explore the retail industry, before starting working as an English assistant in France after the summer. I gained the opportunity to work as an English assistant in France through the British Council teaching program. This was a valuable opportunity for me as it allowed me to integrate myself in France, and put my language skills into real-life practice. Secondly, it allowed me to gain an insight into teaching, particuarly langauge teaching.I then worked at a hospital as a ward clerk for 7 months. This job differed greatly from my previous ones, however, I was able to carry over many of the skills I gained from my teaching experience in France. Communciation is an important aspect of this job, as I am the first point of contact for members of the public contacting the ward, and have to make sure information is being given and passed on accurately and clearly. I am responsible for maintaining accurate medical records for patients throughout their admission.Currently, I am living in Barcelona. My first 9 months here, I was working here as an English teacher in a private language academy full-time. Working as an English teacher provided me with a unique experience to work independently with groups of up to 13 pupils, conducting lessons relevant to their curriculum. I was given the space to create my own lessons and activities. This pushed me to reflect on my own practice, and learn from each lesson, from the response I received from pupils. I therefore found this work experience to be greatly beneficial as I felt responsible and trusted with helping educate children within a real school context.I am currently working in a dubbing studio called Audioprojects.
