I am developing my Master's thesis at Per Nilsson's research group at the Division of Neurogeriatrics at Karolinska Institutet under the supervision of Assistant Professor Makoto Shimozawa, entitled "Analysis of a new autophagy-deficient mouse model expressing P301L mutated human tau".

At Stockholm University, I enrolled in first-level Swedish classes for International students. Moreover, I developed my bachelor's project entitled "The role of L-dopa decarboxylase on neurite outgrowth and maintenance" at the Biochemistry and Biophysics Department, supervised by Anna Forsby (Associated Teacher at Stockholm University) and Ylva Johansson (PhD student at Stockholm University). In this project, we intended to study if the inhibition of DCC expression or activity could induce the degeneration of neurites in human neuroblastoma six-days differentiated SH-SY5Y cells, with the aim to verify if the repression of DDC activity could be considered an important event in the development of a characteristic pathology of PD, such as the degeneration of DAergic neurites.This project was evaluated with 19 out of 20 values.

At Karolinska Institute, I enrolled in an intensive course entitled "Oncology, Anatomy and Physiology for International students" (Grade A).

Student Association of Biochemistry at Faculdade de Ciências do Porto

This summer I had the opportunity to do a summer internship in an outstanding investigation institution known as i3S (Institute for Research and Innovation in Health). Since July, I have been engaged in the Molecular Neurobiology research group head by Professor Maria João Saraiva, whose main focus is to study the role of transthyretin (TTR) in Alzheimer's Diseases and Strokes. During this experience, I have been following the research of two Ph.D. students, Joana Saavedra and Tiago Gião, and performing some laboratory techniques like electrophoresis, immunoblotting, and microscopy to widen my knowledge and to develop my scientific thought.

In my second year of university, I applied to an extracurricular traineeship named "Energetic and structural characterization of fragrances" at the Chemistry Investigation Department of Oporto University. This extracurricular internship was such an enriching experience that allowed me to achieve new chemistry concepts, improve my laboratory work and also take part in a research group. I had the pleasure to have as my supervisor, Professor Vera Lúcia Freitas, who helped me a lot throughout this experience and motivated me to pursue the investigation area. Furthermore, I also had the opportunity to work with an international student, Vince, who taught me several chemistry lab techniques and helped me improve my linguistic skills.
