Sofia Muñoz is a Mechanical Engineering Student-Athlete at Purdue University. Colleagues describe them as "Sofia was an excellent intern at Mueller Water Products and took charge on several high priority and high visibility projects during her summer with us. She is extremely self motivated and required very little extra guidance past the initial task assignment. Sofia took charge of the Production Part Approval Process at our machining plant, which required her to schedule machine trials, verify quality and repeatability of machined parts, and communicate results to several high ranking mangers. This project is critical to our business and Sofia handled it exceptionally, chasing down issues across several departments and effectively communicating progress in a timely manner. As an intern coming directly out of her freshman year, Sofia adapted very quickly to the fast paced environment of a large scale manufacturing facility and constantly explored to expand her knowledge of our processes and applications. Sofia also demonstrated her CAD skills by producing accurate 3D models of fixtures that we had no history or drawings on. These models helped drive a safety initiative that was critical to operations of one of our new production cells. Again, past the initial request, Sofia needed very little guidance or input in order to complete the project on time and accurately. Sofia also expanded upon these skills by attending several optional CAD workshops with our design group, once again demonstrating her desire and rive to learn and contribute in greater and greater ways to our work group. Overall, Sofia was an excellent engineering intern and i can tell she will make a great professional engineer. There were several times that I forgot that she was just out of her freshman year, as her professional attitude and skills were similar to that of somebody who has had significant experience in a professional engineering environment."
