-Division of Infectious Diseases (Principal Investigator: Dr. Ofer Levy)-Data Management Core (Direct supervisor: Dr. Al Ozonoff)-Overall lab focus: ontogeny of innate and adaptive immunity as it impacts age-specific vaccinology-Project: Expanded Program on Immunization Consortium - Human Immunology Project Consortium (EPIC-HIPC)-Description: Working under the Data Management Core, I am strengthening my computational skills as I analyze and run quality control assessments on large datasets from experimental results/metadata, as well as analyze already published studies using data mining methods with the aim to find new correlations for protective vaccine responses. I am also working on data deposition of published vaccine studies into public databases (such as ImmPort and GEO) in order to share data with the rest of the scientific community. Under EPIC-HIPC, I have played a critical role in operational matters, including support of sample tracking and leading weekly calls to coordinate activities across groups. -Role: Member & Head of Social Media Committee-Description of program: Based in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Boston Children’s Hospital, the Precision Vaccines Program fosters international collaboration to characterize distinct vaccine-induced immune responses of vulnerable populations such as the very young and the elderly to inform development of novel vaccines tailored to protect them.

-Member of the Board of Trustees which is the governing body of Doral College that discusses, evaluates, and enacts institutional policies.

-School: Jose De Diego Middle School-Teachers: Ms. Maria Rached (8th grade) & Mr. Shan Rennalls (6th & 7th grade)-Achievements: Taught a minimum of 60 hours per semester. Planned and executed a field trip to bring 35 8th grade students to the University of Miami on April 10, 2018. -Description of program: The SMS program uses a multi-generational tiered-mentoring model to improve science education in some of the most under-resourced schools in Miami. UM graduate students mentor UM undergraduates, who in turn mentor Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) students. The undergraduates serve in middle and high school classrooms as “resident scientists,” working with their graduate student mentors and M-DCPS teachers to develop lesson plans that implement hands-on and inquiry-based learning activities.

-Performed research in Dr. Alice Tomei's Islet Immunoengineering Lab ( http://www.tomeilab.com/ )-Learned and practiced lab techniques such as cell culture, in vivo fluorescent imaging, glucose stimulated insulin release (GSIR), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and confocal microscopy imaging for immunostained samples.-Funded by the Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD) program during the summer term-Mentored and guided new undergraduate students who joined the lab-My involvement grew from learning general lab techniques to attaining an independent project that focused on generating and optimizing the culture conditions of MIN6 clusters to better mimic the morphology and functionality of primary islets.

-Teach chemistry lab (CHM114) with approximately 20 to 24 students per lab-Give an overview of the lab to the students prior to starting the lab and answer any questions-Monitor and interact with students during the entire lab session (approximately 3 hours per lab)-Responsible for weekly grading pre-lab assignments, quizzes, and lab reports-Attend weekly staff meetings

-Work part-time under the Peer Tutoring Program at the Camner Academic Resource Center -Tutor various courses including: Organic Chemistry I & II, Pre-Calculus, and other math courses-Became a CRLA Certified Tutor

-Engaged in Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL)-Acted as a mentor to peers and gained a deeper understanding of General Biology through facilitating in their learning

-Shadowed Dr. Fred F. Telischi during his clinical days -Observed and aided in physical examinations/non-surgical procedures on patients -Experienced the daily clinic routine of an otolaryngologist-Part of a study for airway management and education for medical residents and healthcare providers at Jackson and University of Miami Hospitals. This study aims to provide education on the topic of managing patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies when it comes to their airway needs. -Responsible for data collection and/or management as well as data analysis and/or statistics for the study mentioned above

-Participated in the Leadership Alliance program which encourages students from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities to pursue research careers in the academic, public and private sectors.- My research focused on the analysis of the interacting partners of the F1R1 peptide in cardiomyocytes (CM) to understand the mechanism by which specific peptides promote CM proliferation. My contribution to this project was to perform multiple experiments with varying conditions and conduct data analysis, which I later presented it in the Leadership Alliance National Symposium.
